Ben Ward currently resides in Savannah, Georgia and attends the Savannah College of Art and Design. Ward grew up traveling throughout the country with his family. His father was in the military, which forced Ward to adapt to new environments regularly. His family finally settled in Madison Al, where Ward attended high school and began to hone his passion for art.  Ward began studying Illustration and Drawing at the Savannah College of Art and Design starting in 2001. He received his B.F.A. in Illustration in 2005. Ward works in oil on canvas and panel. His subject matter generally consists of the figure, but he does venture into the landscape. He prefers to do his work from life, recording his environment as he sees it.

He received several awards for his work including best in show twice at the annual Sidewalk Arts Festival, Foundations Honor Scholarship, and Outstanding Foundations student. While studying in Savannah, Ward developed an interest in academic drawing and painting. His interest led him to attend the Florence Academy of Art in 2004. It was his experience there that helped Ward’s work mature during his senior year at SCAD. John Singer Sargent has constantly been a driving influence in his work, his advice, “You can’t do sketches enough. Sketch everything and keep your curiosity fresh” ( has driven Ward to fill several sketchbooks.  It was during this senior year Ben decided he wanted to further his education and pursue his M.F.A. Ward has a passion for teaching and obtaining his Masters degree will allow him to pass on the knowledge he has obtained to others, while still developing his proficiency as an artist.
